Origin & Summary
The templar were officially banded after the first encounter with the Aeliavim and Vampires a couple hundred years ago. Established by survivors of the attacks, militia, farmers, and miners alike were brought together with similar goals; to never let this happen again. The Citadel was built at the eastern edge of safe human territory and made to be almost self sustaining thanks to the eclectic compilation of the founding member's skills. The community is practically a city into itself but refused any political involvement. They would protect themselves and would expand and protect everyone else from the evils in the mountains and beyond.
Beliefs & Practices
Upon accepting a role into the templar, whether it be farmer or warrior, one must forsake any ties they had outside its walls including family names and land holdings. The templar are for the good of all humanity and must not show or practice biased preference for one community over another. A templar must aid and protect any human in need and never balk in the face of evil. They must claim responsibility for any harm that befalls those under their protection but are beyond the judgement of the political realm. Instead they would face the judgement of the elder council of the templar order.
All templar are trained, in some respect, in the ways of combat. Their style and preference is their choice. The young become apprentices according to their interests or as per assignments on what the elder knights believe they would excel at; or in dire times what the Citadel requires. All templar are enlightened as to the workings of quintessence, favorable materials, and the strengths and weaknesses of all friends and enemies. Depending on their teacher they may be taught more specialized information.
Families within the Citadel are permitted. However, the ties of family extend to everyone within the templar order; blood does not matter so long as it is human.
While the templar order as a whole would not go out of their way to aid non-human allies, it is not discouraged to help friendly ogres or halflings when in need and does not conflict with human interests. It is left up to the individual templar's discretion.
Recruitment & Training
The templar train any young ones within its walls tending to ensure they have all the knowledge required to care for their weapons and armor, mend at least minor items, as well as extensive regiments on lore of dark creatures and how to fight them without losing a limb. All templar are well versed in the usage and limits of quintessence in addition to other useful materials such as silver.
When it comes to recruiting all they require is your absolute dedication to the cause and willingness to release all personal ties to the human realm. If one is to sacrifice themselves for the whole there can be no room for selfish biases that could endanger fellows both on and off the field. The Order is the closest thing to a family any Templar can have.
The templar do not adorn themselves with special positions or classes apart from those recognized in human society. The templar share all common classes except those of political or monetary standings such as noble, politician, lord, merchant, etc. Their positions typically follow those of labor, such as farming or smithing, or of military. At best, once a templar is well known and experienced, they may be given a title to commemorate their great deeds.
