The mountainous land of Valrin was more different from his home on the steppe than Kettil could have imagined. Where before he could have looked to the horizon and seen only more smooth land, he now found himself staring up at the many peaks and cliffs that surrounded him. It seemed as if the land was as dangerous and unpredictable as the beings that lived on it.
He had heard stories of vampires, and zofien beast men that resided in the the mountains. It was why he walked with his sword in hand, gripping it tightly as he made his way through the countryside that surrounded Drear. While such creatures would make the very best of allies and underlings, he doubted that all would be willing to negotiate upon seeing a stranger in their midst. If attacked, he was ready to respond with deadly force.
Not to far off from where the person stood there came what seemed to be some kind of chanting or humming from the forest that surrounded him. It was quiet voice and sounded more like a child then anything, but what was a child doing out in this dangerous place you might ask. Well he was hunting it seemed....hunting for stuff other then rabbits and foxes. He was curious as to try to catch something larger so before he went with setting up the trap he was praying to the least god you would expect a human to prey for and as he chanted he had cut his hand with a sharp blade and let the blood hit the ground. A bold more in theses parts for if a vampire or any other blood thirsty creature was to close they would be on you like bees too honey, but that didn't seem to worry the young boy. Not right now anyways.
To hear the voice of a child in such a place seemed almost too ludicrous to comprehend. Kettil was immediately on the defense, assuming that the youth had been planted as some sort of bait. Perhaps a vampire hoped to snare sympathetic wanderers when they came searching for the child.
Actually, that was rather clever. He could use someone who planned such a cold hearted trap.
With his sword at the ready, Kettil followed the child's voice, sneaking off through the undergrowth to try and find the source of it before he was spotted.
After about five more minutes the chanting of the child had stopped and the boy who originally was doing the chanting had stood up. Heaving a weird feeling about maybe some eyes on him as he looked around the place before he dusted his hands off of the dirt that was on them from his chanting ritual that he did. He then herd a slight nose not to far from him and he looked in that direction. A twig snap he figured it might be a local animal so he stayed put.Trying to remember where he layed out his traps from before and then rubbed the back of his neck as he glanced towards the surrounding trees.~Did I already forget where I placed them?~He asked him.
Tucker put his hand up"Don't move"He told Kettil as he moved his head again looking towards the trees."And I am just wondering around why do you ask?"He asked him curiously as he seen a slight glimmer in the sun and tilted his head towards it.~There it is~He told himself before looking back at the guy.
He scoffed at the boy and gestured about them with his sword. "You're in a place that's thick with monsters, boy. I'm looking for monsters. You're more likely to feed one. You don't just wander around Valrin."
Tucker smirked at him"And what would you be....your not a human either...so...are you a monster?"He asked him curiously as he walked towards him."I'm a hunter...,but....not what you would expect..I am alone"He added.
"Come no farther." Kettil warned, raising his sword to point it at the boy. Perhaps an odd way to threaten him, as it had a blunt tip, but it worked well enough to keep some distance between them. "I'm a tiefling. Monster enough, I suppose, to someone such as you. How has a child survived here alone?"
"You don't look like a monster"Tucker said to him with his head cocked and he smirked again"Lets just say I am very very lucky. But you don't need to put a sword at me.....besides your probably step in one of my traps before you reach me anyways....if your paying attention that is"He added pointing to the slightly invisible line that he was near. "And what are you doing all out here in the middle of no where yourself...mi..mister...are you a mister?"He asked him.
"Kettil." He replied shortly. In his opinion, horns and a tail made a much more convincing monster than some ice blue eyes and a little pair of fangs, but he wasn't about to argue with a child. "And I told you, I'm looking for monsters of my own. Ones that might wish to travel with me."
Tucker tilted his head"Why.....why go looking for monsters....aren't you afraid that there betray you or something..."He said as he looked at him"I mean the evil ones of course...so....you looking for a travel buddy....might I come along....your talker then me you could probably deactivate my trap"He added."I mean if you don't mind that is"He added.
