Overall, if you have an idea suggest it to The Maven!
Also, we have a list of member-made terms that may prove useful for character interactions: see our Lexicon.
Q. Are there different colored themes? I prefer dark [or light] ones.
Yes indeed! We have dark & light themes for those who have a preference of one or the other. The default theme changes based on whichever one is newest. We also have a handy Theme Changer in the Yootil bar (bottom right of browser) for members to use.
Q. How often do I have to post? How active is this place?
Since we're all here to enjoy ourselves there's no obligation for anyone to post in any specific amount of time. Some event threads may have time limits, but otherwise it is up to members to decide among themselves. Be as active as you want, but also be respectful of others' time. If you can't post for a month you should let your writing partners know by using our Holidays/Away board. This place runs on courtesy.
Note that since we are pretty laid back here it's probably unreasonable to expect rapid-fire responses. Most members have jobs or other real life obligations that don't allow them to sit on here all hours of the day.
Q. Do I have to use the Wanted Bulletin when making/joining a thread?
This site is extremely open to be played however you want. Cooperative narratives in the stereotypical RP style are encouraged, but if you need ideas or want someone else to run a quest then there's that 'DM' style as well. The Wanted Bulletin can be used by everyone for whatever you need; it is not mandatory.
Q. What is the time period?
Being that this is not based off of a realistic time scale it is hard to place. At its basic you can imagine it as iron age. Large ships have not been made yet due to humans fearing terrifying aquatic creatures, yet small scale clockwork technology has begun circulating. Read the Technology brief and/or our History for more info.
Q. The available world map isn't complete...
This place is meant to be shaped and molded as members play and interact with the world, which means the world will grow and fill in with that involvement. Members gain karma by participating on various things around the site as well as general fun RP (displayed in your mini-profile). You can then spend karma to add things into the world. Take a look at our Karma Shop for more details.
Q. I noticed 'X-Residing' positions in the area descriptions, what are those?
Every region description has notable positions appropriate to the major inhabitants noted in that area. Such as a 'Lord' for an over-arching human region and then a 'Vassal' for each town. These detail the name of a character that has this position and as such is the 'leader' of that dedicated area. If the spot is open, feel free to make a character for it.
Don't be afraid to make a rival that is perhaps gearing toward... gaining... a title that another character already possesses; these do have to be earned.
Q. What images can I use for my characters?
You may use whatever you want (realistic, anime, game, original, or none at all), but we do not do face claims of any sort and your character cannot be a fandom character.
Q. Can I make changes to my character after approval?
It is encouraged that character applications are kept up-to-date with events in the character's life as they adventure through Iendol. We only ask that you please notify an admin to any significant updates/changes you make.
Q. 'Racial' vs. 'Secondary Racial' Templates?
Racial templates are things like: Human, Ogre, Troll, Goblin, Elf, etc. A secondary racial template is one that goes on top of the base template and isn't a race unto itself, such as: Werewolf (original race was Human) and Undead (Vampire that used to be an Ogre).
When listing a character that has a secondary racial template you would list their race as something like 'Ogre Witch' or 'Halfling Witch Vampire'.
*Note that secondary racial templates cannot be hybrids. You're either a vampire or not, etc.
Q. Am I restricted to the description in the racial template?
The racial descs are guidelines and are meant to be expanded upon. However, that does not mean you can create a human with wings or blue skin. That being said, if you wanted to create a Human Witch who was transfiguring themselves while in the final moments of being overcome by the Avian Strand of Zofienism and thus are stuck with some sort of permanent (but useless) wings... It's all how you spin it within the bounds of the world.
Q. Can my character be a race not listed in the current playable species?
If you are interested in playing a hybrid of things that are in the current list, yes. Otherwise, yes but it must be proposed to The Maven once you have earned enough karma to purchase such a thing. Sometimes they need to be 'discovered' through RP and are not immediately available. Keep in mind that one-of-a-kind characters will be heavily restricted without great back-story and follow up.
Q. Can I make a subspecies or class that isn't on the current playable species?
Subspecies will follow the same rules as the above. Let The Maven know what you want to do and go from there; don't hesitate to ask!
Most classes listed under the current playable species are mostly for terminology, with a simple explanation of what it means to be of that class. Simple things like 'Soldiers' or 'Nobility' or 'Assassin' are not necessary to explain, thus are not listed. If you want a special class that would require an explanation, say for a guild, merely suggest it and see.
