Rache's scream was taken as nothing more than the typical fearful response to any helpless morsel about to find itself stuck on the end of the doppelganger's claws. The arrow struck true, exploding in its face as it bent over to attack again and knocking it backwards. Smoke hung in the air, a little thicker now than when the 'doctor' was busy puffing his pipe. Unfortunately the creature didn't have enough time to fully pull a switcharoo before the vampire was between them, but it did manage to mimic the red head.
As the creature stood and Cadence yelled for Rache to retreat back, the real witch of the group had begun reverting back to her natural state. She shivered in fear but managed to haphazardly stumble away behind a chair. She never even answered Soul, now just crouched wide eyed with two people between herself and the thing that attacked. The alchemist clutched her journal tightly in her hands and whimpered quietly.
The doppelganger looked at the two newcomers with uncertainty, eyes flicking back and forth while it backed itself away.

Cadence heard Soul's remark about being a Vampire. Had this been ANY other moment, she might have turned on him but he had not been cruel to her yet, and there was a more pressing issue. Now, as She stood with exploding arrow at the ready, and Soul stood further between them - a perfect meat shield - the creature seemed to be back away. Was it attempting a retreat? or perhaps steadying for it's next attack in either case, Cadence allowed herself a small taunt. "Like the taste of Fire? Stick around if you want some more." She threatened in a stern voice. She was starting to feel the fatigue that the day had given her.
if the creature attempts to move foreward or attack, Cadence will loose the incendiary arrow at this face.
Soul moved closer to the so called doctor with his hands held in a fight stanza with his claws extended slightly. He narrowed his eyes at him as he kept his eyes locked in on any movement the old doctor might make besides he was older then him he might be more skilled, but he was more worried about protecting his friends.
"Rach can you still use a spell while he is in that form?'He asked her as he side glanced at her before looking at Cadence wondering if she was going to shoot the doctor or not.
The doppelganger disguised as the red head Rache had been moments earlier had no where else to back up to, it having almost reached the wall by the door. The shape changer looked between the vampire and the archer, thoughts whirling about in its mind. The little witch whimpering behind the chair at the back shouted back a reply to Soul's inquiry, "If it was going to work against him he wouldn't have been able to attack me!" Her voice wavered, bordering on a shriek.
With Rache's cry the doppelganger lurched forward to the side, putting itself between the door and Cadence if one was to draw a direct line. The arrow was launched and the creature attempted to dodge, rolling forward with its initial momentum. The arrow ripped through the trailing red hair, the doppelganger letting out a quiet cry, and smacked into the door releasing its usual ball of fire. The door was blackened, little flicks of fire licking at its frame, but the wall was beginning to catch.
The doppelganger rose from its hands and knees and went after Soul. Its hands transitioned into the sharp grey claws from before and struck out with vigorous speed. The first claw went from his chest while the second was aimed for his neck. Other than its hands the thing looked like a normal girl standing at about equal height to the vampire.

Cadence quickly re-adjusted her stance, moving into a position where she could clearly see both Soul and the creature they were fighting. It's shape changed again, making it a hard target to hit. The only thing worse than a moving target was one whose size and shape were variable. Cadence took mild cover between a well-worn sofa and the wall behind it, kicking it out to give her room to stand. From here, she should have a good line of site regardless where the creature was. She grabbed a paralyzing gas arrow. "Time to switch gears." She spoke to herself, waiting for the creature to lash out at Soul. She Aimed not for the creature's body, but for the ground just behind where it stood. If her calculations were correct, the resulting explosion of debilitating gas would effect the creature, but should give soul a chance to jump backward to avoid if he saw the opening.
The Arrow hit it's mark, exploding with a flash and an large puff of blue-green smoke. But would it be enough to drop the monster?
Soul muttered something to Rach's reply as he watched the arrow narrowly miss the creature and smack into the door as it seemed the wall was beginning to catch as well from the arrow. He moved back quickly when the creature tried lashing out at him only getting his chest and missing his neck as he saw the arrow out of the corner of his eyes as Cadence had left off another arrow that hit it's mark behind the creature letting off a flash of light that turned into a puff of bluegreen smoke. He quickly backed away from the creature to avoid the fumes of the smoke as to not get paralyzed by the smoke hoping it was enough to take down the creature, but if it changed again would it be enough? He wondered as he stood ready for another attack as his eyes flashed slightly. "The walls catching...you two should head out"He called to the girls.
The arrow whipped by and splattered at the doppelganger's feet, causing quite the start from the unsuspecting creature. It assumed the arrow would be going for itself and not immediately behind, thus when it hopped backwards to avoid it ended up in even more danger. The smoke erupted around its form. It coughed as its lungs absorbed the gas. Immediately the thing dashed for the scorched door, adjusting its shape into something bulkier as it moved and bashing through the poor wooden thing.
The door didn't really break and splinter into an amazing shower, but bent and popped out of place. The bottom hinge clung to the wall as the top was torn away to leave the door hobbled and wide open. The doppelganger stumbled into the street. It's movements were sloppy as it desperately dove into a side street; but it didn't get very far before tumbling to the ground in defeat. It lay still in a rather grotesque form, large and muscled like an ogre but with bizarre reflections of the young woman it had just been moments ago.
Rache huddled behind the protection of her chair back turned and wincing at every noise. Soul mentioned the walls catching. Catching what? Fire? A shaking hand broke from her journal to grab at the pouch on her leg, but the crash of the door cause an eruption of panic. The witch cried out in fear and her eyes locked onto the open window. She scrambled over to it and climbed out, noting Soul had left her duffel in the alley. She was too frightened to be angry about it. The young alchemist frantically crawled over to her bag, opened it, and began stuffing her journal into it.
Nearby she heard a loud thump as the doppelganger fell to the ground. A cold shiver rolled down her spine and froze her body. Her hands still inside the duffel with one wrapped around her katar.

Cadence's muscles relaxed as the creature fled. She was getting to good at this, she thought, looking around. She saw Rache dart out the window, and the wall catching. "I have to find the real doctor. He's got to be in here somewhere. Grab the girl and get out." Cadence motioned to the girl lying catatonic on the bed near the door. Little did she know that this would make soul twice that girl's savior. Even if he had put her in that state to begin with. "When you're clear, you should try to find that monster...and End the blasted thing." She said nothing more as she went to explore the rest of the house. It might be catching, but she knew there was time to find him. He was probably stashed in a closet or something.
or...tied to his bed? She made a face. That was kind of strange. But nevertheless, she went to work releasing the unconscious man's bindings. "Wake up, doctor, I can't really carry you. And, also...I may have caught your house on fire... a little bit." Outside there were other townsfolk calling out. 'fire fire'.
Soul nodded with a sigh as he walked over to the girl he had attacked earlier and carried her out in his arms meeting Rache in the alleyway after he had left the burning building. He put a hand on her shoulder as he looked back at the building."Hey you ok?"He asked her with the girl across his shoulder holding her with one hand."Did the thing land over there somewhere"He asked looking down the alley way knowing that the creature couldn't of gotten to far.
The town was suddenly springing to life on the streets. Cries of fire and the bustle of moving bodies carried themselves to the doctor's clinic. With the door already left open one of the men came in to see how they could help, looking for any patients as well as the doctor himself, another swept in carrying a bucket of water. He did his best to water down the entryway with what little he had then quickly ducked back out so as to not be in the way.
As Soul touched her shoulder Rache drew her katar from her bag and whipped out from under him at lightning speed. Her eyes were wide with terror as she held the blade up between them, fist clenched to the point of white knuckles around its grip. It took a moment before her brain registered the vampire and she released her breath. "By the love of the gods... Don't do that!" she screeched at him. Rache relaxed her arm then moved to grab her bag and sling it over her shoulder.
Her heart settling a little so it wasn't trying to pound its way out of her chest the witch let out another deep sigh to calm herself. "As for your question... yes... I think so..." She didn't admit that she hadn't looked. Instead the alchemist moved to be behind Soul and pointed to the adjacent alleyway. "I heard it through there."

Why doesn't Arcadia make Water arrows... Cadence thought to herself as she finished untying the doctor's bindings. She slid an arm up underneath him, Bringing him swiftly to an upright position. His eyes flickered open languidly, as if he had been the victim of some odd drug. She helped him to his feet, helping him as best she could out of the room, and away from the burning doorway.
Once they were outside, Cadence struggled to set the man down against an adjacent building. "It's all coming down, in flames, in fact. My little secrets. All the White little lies..." He mumbled gruffly through his stupor.
"Hush, Doctor, you'll be alright." She consoled, as she stood to help put out the flames. But how?
Soul had jumped back at the quick reaction Rache had made with her Katar not expecting her to have reacted that way more or less he was expecting her to jump, but not like that. He shook his head at her"Should learn to relax in situations like this.....just saying"He said as he watched her move behind him like some scared little child and motion that she heard it down the alleyway. He nodded his head as he moved to see if the creature was still there."So...no hard feelings for going to kill this thing?"He asked her"You wont see me as a monster if I do?"He asked.
The young woman had puffed her cheeks out in silent response to Soul's comment about relaxing. Luckily being behind him allowed for the undead boy to miss the facial expression; his attention drawn by her pointing to the other alley path. Rache brought her hands together at her chest, katar still held tightly in one of them, as she watched the vampire move to investigate. She was almost taken aback when he spoke his next question.
"Really? That thing tried to kill me. I don't care if you throw it back into the fire to slowly burn to death," the alchemist seethed. Her own sentence seemed to remind her that she was standing beside a building catching fire, visage shifting from angry to mild panic again. There was a moment where she looked to the unconscious woman over Soul's shoulder with a conflicted expression. "Oh..." she muttered before scuttling over to the boy, "I'll take her while you deal with..." she paused as she poked her head around the corner to see the unconscious creature, "that."
Meanwhile, the townspeople had banded together to deal with the fire. Sand bags were brought over while others had run to the nearby well to obtain more water and a couple men retrieved other patients from within the building. It seemed they had a rather good fluid system going to stamp out the flames and keep it from spreading. There were other bystanders that noted the safety of the doctor and had approached inquiring of his and Cadence's health as well as obvious followup questions of what had happened. It seemed no one else had noticed the deformed being laying unconscious in the alley yet.
Soul had turned his head to what she had said about the creature before she had said oh as if realising what he had done to this women which didn't really make him feel any better about killing someone. He never truly felt good afterwards and he thinks he only killed a couple of people, but that was because he was defending himself. He sighed at her and nodded as he moved the women carefully and handed her over to Rach. "I just hope she doesn't wake up any time soon...it would be to much to take in all at once"He said before he moved down the ally towards the creature as it laid unconscious on the ground. While the chaos of the fire was being dealt with he was glad no one had noticed this thing yet let alone him. He didn't think he could deal with anymore stuff tonight and he was growing tired and more importantly the sun would be up soon now.So he needed to find cover pretty damn soon. He was quick with the creature he didn't let anything else bother him as he had kneeled down beside it as his fangs extended and his eyes glowed as he lend in towards it's neck to rid it of it's life.

Cadence, having set old Malachi down, knelt a moment to breathe. She was on the opposite side of the house from the alley that the other two had gone down, in the main street, watching men and women quickly dowse the fire that had started in the house. The girl started to get back up and help put the fire out when Malachi, regaining consciousness, grasped her wrist in this spindly grasp. "You have to get out of town. Now." The old doctor's voice was shaky, but insistent.
Jason's back was pressed against the stone of the wall. He had to leave now. Yet he lingered. The creature's body lay mere feet from him, just around the corner. He looked over his shoulder, saw the young vampire approaching the shapeshifter's body. He tossed his Kukri -the silver one- into the alley just as Soul was bending down to do his work. "That ought to make it easier. Those things don't like Silver much. Don't worry, the hilt is ordinary wood, it won't hurt you." Jason relented, revealing himself by stepping into the alley.
He bent down near the decapitated creature once Soul had finished, watching the vampire's eyes with something akin to reticence. "How's my sister doing? Malachi - or rather the monster here - told me she and you all were outside. I thought it might have just been to get me out of the house, but it wasn't was it? She really was here, wasn't she? Still is, I'll bet. I really should leave." He seemed more conflicted than Soul would have seen up to this point. More vulnerable than a Claymore ought to be.
